Located approximately a 40-minute drive southeast of Nashville, the city of Murfreesboro boasts a number of museums, historic sites and annual festivals that entice visitors throughout the year. Stones River National Battlefield is a 600-acre (243-ha) historic site that witnessed a Civil War battle between the Confederate and Union armies in the mid-1800s. The park is home to a Civil War monument and a cemetery and draws visitors wishing to hike, fish and bike. History enthusiasts appreciate Oaklands Historic House Museum, where historic photographs, furniture and other artifacts depict early days in Murfreesboro.
