Murfreesboro, TN at a Glance
Located approximately a 40-minute drive southeast of Nashville,
the city of Murfreesboro boasts a number of museums, historic sites and annual
festivals that entice visitors throughout the year. Stones
River National Battlefield is a 600-acre (243-ha) historic site that witnessed
a Civil War battle between the Confederate and Union armies in the mid-1800s.
The park is home to a Civil War monument and a cemetery and draws visitors wishing
to hike, fish and bike. History enthusiasts appreciate Oaklands
Historic House Museum, where historic photographs, furniture and other artifacts
depict early days in Murfreesboro. An abundance of festivals take place in this
city, including Uncle
Dave Macon Days, an old-time music and dance festival that occurs in July.
The American
Indian Festival in March and the Main
Street JazzFest in May are other popular Murfreesboro events. Shoppers flock
to Stones
River Mall, a shopping center that features over 50 shops and services,
including several major department stores.
